A Photo A Day … September 29 2012

Went to my sister’s field today to get the barrow as we thought it would be easier to move stuff. Well, that’s what thought does for you. Anyhoo, while we were there, her horses – both rescues – came to the fence to say hi.

  1. Beautiful Shot, I love it, Alastair :)

    • Thanks Penny :-) Considering I am scared of horses, I can actually stroke these two.

      • That’s excellent, good for you. I had Christina and Nick riding pretty young, they both had natural “seats” according to the instructor. Christina loved horses growing up, Once when she and her horse jumped across a creek, she fell and dislocated her arm ! :)

        • OUCH! Makes my reason for being afraid of them rather silly then. LOL I only went bounce..bounce..splatt lol

          • She was lucky that day, there was a small rural store close by and a doctor happened to be in the store when she and her friends came in asking for help. On the spot the doctor (ha ha) put it back in place). Which of course didn’t feel so good, but she still loved her horse! )

            • Right place at the right time. I got back on my horse after it was caught. It was the next day I couldn’t, so decided to leave the stables I was working at

  2. Teresa Cleveland Wendel

Lovely photo. These breeds are unfamiliar to me, but I love the names–especially Dartmoor Hill Pony. Is it a stout, light workhorse, by chance?

    • Not sure what the actual breeds are as I believe they are mix-n–match. I know the Dartmoor Hill Ponies are wild and they have to be cleared regularly. If they are not re-homed, then they become glue or animal food which sickens me as all they need to do is geld the Stallions and there wouldn’t be this problem. I think my sister called them both Cobs. Don’t know if that is a make of horse or a generalisation for them

  3. Aww….I miss horses!! Used to have them as a girl….these are adorable! :)

    • I’m actually afraid of horses. But I can get close to these two. There’s no way I would EVER be able to get on them (bad back or no). I imagine that you would miss them. I know what my sister was like when she had to give up one of her horses nine years ago.

      Thank you :-)

  4. I love animals. The horses are beautiful. I am sorry to hear about your recent animal loses and wish things get better for you soon.

    • Thank you :-)

My sister’s horses were both rescues, one a Dartmoor Hill Pony, the other a New Forest. When they first arrived they were a bag of nerves and couldn’t be approached. Now one of them is being broken in by a nine year old riding him. And he is so adorable. The horse that is ;-)
