Daily Prompt: Lookin’ Out My Back Door

Look out your back window or door — describe what you see, as if you were trying to convey the scene to someone from another country or planet.

When I open my back door, I see houses just over the road from me, and one of those has a Victorian light attached to it. Behind those, and reaching up a good couple of hundred feet are cliffs.

There is green sprouts of grass and bushes interspersed up the side of the cliffs, and two-thirds of the way up there are what appear to be windows or vents from the old tunnels from Winston Churchill’s war rooms in World War II. To the left of that is the outcropping for the entrance into those tunnels where people can look over the side.

Sometimes there are people abseiling down the cliffs to install meshed wire to (I assume) stop rock slides. Seagulls, crows and pigeons often cling to the sides of the cliff and just drop off the side. Rarely, a Kite (the bird of prey) can be seen hovering over the top.

These cliffs are no ordinary cliffs. When I look out my bedroom window and back door, I see the White Cliffs of Dover

  3. It must be great to just gaze out of the windows…I would love a view, I don’t seem to be blessed with them wherever I have lived in this country…I am sure I am not alone in that though.

    • I have done 😉 I thought about it when I almost bumped into Vera Lynn. Well, she almost bumped into me. She took a step backwards and I had to step onto the road. I had no clue who she was and just thought “dottery old woman” lol
