Sunday Photo Fiction – Maybe Too Subtle

Every week a photo is used as a prompt to create a story using around 200 words. If you want to have a go, then head on over to Sunday Photo Fiction. Or head over and read other stories through the little blue midgy.

I may have been a little too subtle with this one.

A chandalier

A chandelier

Shandra and her friend from school were on the train heading home. For six weeks they had been in boarding school, being told what time to rise, what time to retire, when to shower, when to run, when to walk. Now they both looked forward to spending time doing what they wanted. Her friend, Leah, nudged her, pointing out the window. “Look”, she said. “Boys, and we are allowed to talk to them.”

Shandra, Shandy to her friends, grinned and replied “Tomorrow, we are out and looking around. Freedom never felt so good.”

Arriving at Shandy’s home, her mother opened the door and embraced the two of them n a bear hug. For three hours they sat and talked about the last six weeks and what they learned.

“Now you two,” Shandy’s mother began after the tales were told. “Leah will be staying here for the whole of the vacation.” She couldn’t help but notice the mental cogs whirring in their heads. “And I want no bright ideas of swinging from anywhere. Do you hear me Shandy? Leah?”

  1. Hee hee hee. Now that’s a wise mother. I like this, it’s taking the prompt to a literal level 😀 If the girls are teens though, they might be thinking of a not quite so literal swinging.
