Forbidden Lovers

Unique in their difference
Disparate in their likeness
Legions moved, carried by wing
Opposed to the wingless, walking below

1

The walking, armed with spear and stone
The flying, with rocks of fire
Ready to send the other home
To rest atop a funeral pyre

The war they fought, never ending
How it started, neither knew
Both sides tarried, never bending
Never remembering why they slew

11

As is the normal in a war
Something remarkable oft takes place
As killing the other becomes a chore
Slaughtering, never seeing the face

9

Until one time, a life depended
A woman’s life begins to fade
The man who finds her, hate rescinded
He finds her ‘midst a bloodied glade

8

Back to health, he heals her wounds
She looks into his soulful eyes
Her heart starts singing loving tunes
She steals a kiss, then off she flies

17

Now he tries to end the war
Saying they fight for no good reason
They say they’ve heard it all before
And sentence him to death for Treason

She tells her lords to think things over
Asks if they remember why they die
Her questions make them sit up, sober
They see the love inside her eye

5

A truce is called before the others
They soon find out silence is golden
And now they see forbidden lovers
And to them, their lives beholden

A senseless war cost millions of lives
Fought with sticks and bombs and spears and guns
The deaths of many husbands, wives
Brothers, sisters, daughters sons.

16

And so a peace reigns through the land
With grateful children, fathers, mothers.
As two walk out, hand in hand
The war was stopped by forbidden lovers.

Oubliette

Darkness bound black as night
Darker even in the hole
Utilising an inner sight
To see into his tortured soul

Oubliette 7

Desire has fled from the heart
Locking down the mind’s love door
Inside his soul is torn apart
Unable to love any more

Intolerance, mistrust and deceit
Devastating him with no regret
No longer wanting love to meet
Preferring his internal oubliette

Oubliette 8

Hidden away, there is a longing
Behind the door, there is desire
But fear of others, always conning
Losing happiness, but gaining ire

Throughout his life, love has lost
As partners cheat, lie, defect
He would rather save the cost
And stay in his private oubliette

One reaches out, opens his heart
Fear grips him, he wants to love
He wonders if she plays a part
If near a cliff, she’ll give a shove

He wants to believe, wants to see
But in his heart, doubts beset
So he decides he will only ever be
In his own deep, dark, oubliette

H.O.P.E. How Our Personality Evolves

HOPE is a four letter word that can sometimes be seen as a cruel word that mixes in with other vulgar four letter words. We all lose HOPE at some point. Something comes along and we see no wait out. We see no way of going forward. We see no help on the horizon. All we do see is a tunnel with a power cut. No light can be seen and there is no way to avoid it. The metaphorical embankments are too steep to climb. You try, but you fail. You try again and keep slipping down, maybe seeming to make less headway each time due to tiring. Then you only see the way out being through that tunnel. A dark, empty, tunnel.

Then as you walk through it, time seems to slow down. You don’t know how long you have been there. Hours. Days. Weeks. Months. Years. Then you see a light coming towards you. Now, HOPE starts to come in. HOPE at the thought of finding a way out. The light comes around the corner and it is someone with a torch, and your HOPE dissipates. That low that you feel couldn’t get any lower, there it is proving you wrong.

Then the wonderful thing happens. That person with the torch? They stop and talk to you. They tell you that they have been looking for you. They are there to help you, to light your way through the rest of the tunnel. It is a long walk, but you see the end of it. Finally, your HOPE returns with fervour and you fairly run out of that tunnel, dropping to your knees and thanking whoever for helping.

HOPE has not abandoned us. It is always there, trying to find a way in.

Don’t give in. HOPE is there.

Don’t lose HOPE

August Daily Photo Challenge – August 7th – A Loved One Old(er)

I had every intention of photographing my son for this. I was going to make him pose, but with the concentration on his face whilst he was painting his Warhammer 40K Necrons, I couldn’t resist the shot. Think his face has been slightly sunburned as well.
